Refrained is used without the personal pronoun since the definition already includes it. Refrain: To hold oneself back: forbear Therefore the sentence should have read. I restrained myself from .... or I refrained from ...... Martin Mr. Smith, The intended word was "refrained", my error was, as you correctly pointed out, the use of "myself". On the other hand, looking definitions up, etc. I found out the following: One of the definitions (Webster Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary) of the word "restrain" is: To deprive of liberty as by arrest or the like. On second thought, your suggested word seems more appropriate to use in the FTEL thread, where "depriving" or "arresting" one's liberty to express any dissenting view from the "main stream" seems to be a desire of many. In which case, the phrase should have read: "I restrained myself from using the Vulcan Language" I stand corrected.... (twice today, already). Thank you for your clarification, I guess I have forgotten the use of proper English. On a different subject, Re: Falkland/Malvinas Islands. You had suggested the existence of oil around the islands, as the reason to defend the Falklands Islands. I read on the Economist, issue of July 4th. - 10th. page 30, a small article on the above subject where the oil exploration around said islands by two American companies, has yielded the following: 1. One company found "traces" of oil. 2. The second one has given up drilling, having found none at all. tich tor ang tesmur That means: Live long and prosper. (in Vulcan).
