MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dialog Corporation ("Dialog") (Nasdaq: DIALY), a leading Internet online information company, today announced that it had exceeded $50 million in Internet-based revenue during the first half of 1998. This revenue level compares to pro forma Internet-based revenues of approximately $24 million from Dialog's predecessor companies for the half-year 1997, and highlights the Company's successful implementation of the Internet as a primary distribution channel for its broad base of electronic information.

M.A.I.D plc, the predecessor to The Dialog Corporation, was a pioneer in Internet-based information delivery, commencing commercial service in March 1996. Dialog's Internet-based revenues reflect usage of its powerful suite of Internet interfaces for its flagship information services: DIALOG(R), DataStar(TM), DialogSelect(TM) and Profound(R). The revenue figures do not include any revenue from advertising. Dialog predicts it will break through the $100 million Internet revenue barrier before year-end.

Dan Wagner, The Dialog Corporation's chief executive officer, commented: "From a standing start in 1996 our Internet-based revenues have demonstrated explosive growth and position Dialog as both a pioneering and leading participant in the worldwide expansion of Internet-based commerce. We view the dynamic increase in the commercial and consumer use of the Internet to be a fundamental, long-term growth driver for our Company."

"Having experienced the frustration of finding precise information expeditiously and reliably on the World Wide Web, Internet users find our services invaluable to their quest to conduct fast, accurate and seamless searching across an unparalleled range of quality information. Our growth in this emerging medium illustrates our customers' successful adoption and utilization of our innovative information resources and underscores the significant growth opportunities we face in the coming years."

The Dialog Corporation ( dialog.com ) is a leading provider of online information following the merger of M.A.I.D plc and Knight-Ridder Information Inc. The Dialog Corporation brands include the Dialog, DataStar and Profound range of products and services. These brands provide comprehensive, authoritative sources of information to professionals worldwide. The Dialog Corporation has world headquarters in London and is traded on the Nasdaq (DIALY) and the London Stock Exchange (DLG).
