Brocade Names New President and Chief Executive Officer; Greg Reyes To Lead Company Through Its Next Phase of Rapid Growth

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998--Brocade Communications Systems Inc., the industry's leading supplier of Fibre Channel switch Fabrics, Monday appointed Greg Reyes president and chief executive officer.

Reyes brings to Brocade a strong background and expertise in rapidly growing business and revenues in emerging growth companies and markets. He replaces Bruce Bergman, who will remain an active member of Brocade's board of directors. "Brocade has quickly become the clear leader in Fibre Channel switching and in providing the backbone of the Server-Storage Area Network (SAN)," said Bergman.

"As the market leader, we have grown swiftly, and are expecting even more rapid growth going forward. Consequently, it is key that we build an executive team to manage this growth for the long term, and we are fortunate to have Greg at Brocade's helm. With his experience in systems and networking, hardware and software, as well as in OEM and channel sales, Greg is very well suited to lead Brocade to the next level."

Reyes joins Brocade from Wireless Access Corp., where as president, CEO and chairman, he led the company from a virtual start-up phase through its subsequent rapid growth and recent acquisition by Glenayre Technologies. Prior to Wireless Access, he managed a five-fold growth in less than three years as divisional vice president and general manager at Norand Data Systems.

Additionally at Norand he developed a strong indirect channel strategy, which under his direction grew from 10 percent to over 50 percent of the company's total revenue. Previously, Reyes held executive and sales positions at Banyan Systems and Convergent Technologies.

"I am thrilled with the opportunity to lead the Brocade team," said Reyes. "The Fibre Channel-based SAN market potential is huge, and with an excellent team as well as great products and technology, Brocade is well-positioned to continue to be the primary driver in this market." Bergman, after helping ensure a seamless succession, plans to stay active in the industry as a consultant and investor in addition to his Brocade Board activities. Reyes also now joins Brocade's board of directors.
