Global Numbers - FYI Morgan Stanley and CommerceNet Consortium/Neilsen Media Research estimates the World Wide Web user base will increase from 27 million users to 170 million users by the year 2000. The geographic breakdown of the user base in 1996 is 17 million in the U.S. and Canada and 10 million classified as ROW (rest of world). By the year 2000, it is estimated that the U.S./Canada user base will be 75 million, with ROW at 95 million users. These growth rates are pegged to the historical penetration rates of the Windows Operating System. Using this data, International Gaming and Wagering Business Magazine was able to derive estimates of Internet casino (gross profit) based on average per capital spending on casinos per adult in the U.S. ($125) and adjusting for the world wide spending average (25% of the U.S. rate). This study projects that by the year 2000, Internet casino gross profit will reach $8.7 billion, versus a $30.6 billion profit in the U.S. market.
