Malone is just doing damage control. I have to admit it is bonehead to express that "falling share price of T threatens the deal". Both companies critically need each other. I guess Malone thinks that T's shareholders are incompetent oafs and are willing to shoot themselves in the foot just like the Japanese people have done. Hmmm. He may have a point there. Still, he shouldn't say that publicly. There are three boneheads: the government leaders, the corporate leaders, and the public. Is it at all any surprise that it is difficult to succeed in investment?

It would be unwise for T to put conditions like protecting other aspects of the telephone business from the cable implications. When you're in for a penny, you're in for a pound. You can't go at anything half-assed. Malone is now admitting the decision of a year and half ago to shut down upgrade activity was a major mistake. Do you remember how we railed about that eight months ago on this thread? Paul Weiss, (remember him?) thought we were wrong and made these third grade arguments like they couldn't afford it. They couldn't afford to not do it. You have to wonder if Malone should get completely out of TCI decision making and resign from the board.

I don't see where Cedar Rapids, Skokie, or Tacoma, are negatives for ATHM. No reason their home grown systems can't sign up. That is, if they last.

Thank you Hiram - I think everybody should know there is a huge public utility 30 miles north of Tacoma which is, of course, Seattle City Light.
