RE: How do you answer your more knowledgeable investors if questioned about your choice of AMD over DELL as an instrument?

A trade is a trade.
You can not talk about missed oppertunity.
You can not get upset if you sell a stock that then goes up 5000%.
You can not get upset if you look at A and B and pick the wrong one.
you can not get upset if you sell a stock that is pulling back just to see it pop back up in an instant.
You can not get upset if you are wrong, The market does not care.

If you are going to get upset about missed oppertunity selling to early or anyother move that had it not been done would have vielded more $$, Then you must also get upset when you sell something and it promptly goes down. When you say No to a stock that ultimately never works.

My clients understand this concept.
DELL and AMD are not my only position, I just seem to talk about them here. It is strange, I don't seem to talk much about the things that are working, There is no debate there for me.

>>>>>>>>>I recently went the 'diversify' route - again -, and my net 'loss' was 75 shares of DELL! That is the second time that I have done this, and the second time I have LOST. ($25K first time, $7.5K second time - well at least I getting better at losing LESS money!)<<<<<<<<

Glad to see you cut it closer this time.
Today on CNBC they are talking about the fact that X DELL, CSCO, INTC, MSFT, the Nasdaq would probably be down on the year.
This is not a healthy sign for the market as a whole. JFTR.

Since DELL seems to be the best idea, then perhaps you should abandon all of those other positions and go 100% no, why not 150 or 200% long DELL. You and I both know that would be stupid.
Why would it be stupid, because if a large share holder were to descide that he or she had had enough of DELL and wanted out now, the stock would get crushed and our net worth with it.

>>>>>>I haven't seen the kind of consistent growth that both DELL and MSFT have demonstrated before. <<<<<<<
It is nice to see that you have managed to hang around so long.
And if you take a look at MSFT's EPS, you will notice a dramatic slowing in the growth rate as the stock continues to soar ever higher. Again, this is not a healthy sign.
