Year 2000 readiness testing program:

Compaq Packages Year 2000 Parallel Computing Environments

Customers Can Reach Year 2000 Readiness Without Disrupting Production Systems

Customers Lease What They Need, As Long As They Need It

HOUSTON, July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Services announced today it is packaging parallel computing environments to
help customers safely assess, remediate, and test crucial software for Year 2000 readiness without disrupting their production
systems. The leasing program enables Compaq's VAX and Alpha customers to acquire the servers, storage, software tools
and support services they need.

''This latest innovation in Compaq Services' Year 2000 customer care program gives customers a convenient way to acquire
exactly what they need, when they need it,'' said Janet Wallace, vice president of marketing and sales, Compaq Services.
''Industry analysts now predict that testing of corrected code will be a much bigger task than originally thought. Our customers
can replicate their production environment on the parallel systems and thoroughly assess, correct and test application code
without risk to normal business operations.''

''This is a no brainer,'' said Jim Johnson, chairman of The Standish Group. ''It would be smart for the installed Digital
customer base to take a look at this program rather than testing on a production system.''

The Year 2000 Parallel Environments combine powerful Year 2000 readiness software running on Digital AlphaServer
systems under the DIGITAL UNIX or OpenVMS operating systems. The prepackaged configurations include Year 2000-
ready StorageWorks storage components and a choice of support services. The solutions are currently available in North
America and Europe through leasing programs that address customers' budgeting issues. Digital Financial Services offers
financing options that enable customers to start Year 2000 readiness work now and distribute costs into the coming months.
Once the work is completed, customers can return the equipment and avoid having excess equipment and the expense
connected with it.

Powerful Software Tools Speed Year 2000 Readiness

The Year 2000 Parallel Environments are available with Year 2000 readiness tools to assist each phase of the Year 2000
readiness cycle. Compaq Services offers both Navig8 2000 from Accelr8 Technology Corporation [Nasdaq:ACLY - news]
and the Piercom 2000 Digital Version from Piercom Ltd. Both products automate much of the code assessment and
remediation phase of the Year 2000 readiness process. For the final testing phase, Compaq Services provides the Cyrano
MilleniumTest product suite, which also automates much of the process of thorough code testing.

Compaq Services' popular Year 2000 System Healthcheck service is also available as part of these packages. It provides a
quick, effective way to assess the Year 2000 readiness status of standard Digital Equipment Corporation hardware and
software products, as well as products from Microsoft and selected other third parties. Compaq Services also offers a
complete range of Year 2000 readiness services.

Pricing for the Year 2000 Parallel Environments depends on the systems and the duration of the lease. An 18-month lease on
an entry AlphaServer system including storage and Year 2000 assessment tools would cost under $4,000 per month.

>This behemoth needs to move UP!

It's moved pretty fast for a Big Momma; check out the 5 day chart at quote.yahoo.com. My concern is, why? Is this a "rising tide" situation, or is there some whisper of impending success? Personally, I'm not too optimistic about Wednesday's earnings report, as I'm expecting little to no profits from the core businesses and big charges related to DEC. I think cpq could easily drop back to the 20s unless there is some unexpected good news.
