=========>>>>> '07/15/1998 - Back in the saddle! - It's been quite some time since a significant update was done on the euy2k.com website, and a lot has been happening, so let's get caught up. MASSIVE LINKS PAGE UPDATE! Much is happening in the world of electric utilities and Y2k, so don't forget to check out the links page before you leave. Please note that the links page will be reformatted in a few weeks and purged of some older links (just keeping up with power company compliance statements is getting to be a chore). Due to my busy schedule, in June, I regretably had to discontinue my weekly Westergaard 2000 columns. However, I promised Adam (the editor) that I'd check in from time to time with a column, and hopefully retain a 'columnist emeritus' status. ;-) Thanks, Adam, for indulging me these past few months. In place of the weekly columns, I'm adding a guest columns feature on the euy2k.com website. The first column was written by Rebecca Allen. If you have an idea for a topical column that you'd like to write, please email me. A new meetings list has been added - three upcoming conferences promise to be very instructive from business continuity, contingency planning, and regulatory standpoints. The euy2k.com website will be undergoing some changes over the next few weeks - stay tuned! In May, I testified before Congresswoman Constance Morella's House Subcommittee on Science and Technology in Washington, D.C. It was quite the experience, and feedback has been very positive. Thanks to all who were kind enough to give me suggestions and support in that endeavor. In June, Senator Robert Bennett's Year 2000 committee heard testimony from a variety of industry speakers. While I was less than satisfied with the overall tone of the meeting (I could hear Bobby McFarrin singing "Don't Worry, Be Happy" in the background), the fact that it was held at all was certainly a plus. Many links to coverage of the hearing are provided on the links page. And lastly, it happened as predicted - the Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued guidence to all nuclear utilities on the Year 2000 issue, Generic Letter 98-01. I'll let you judge the potential impact of the directive yourself, and will reserve comment until the first required industry reports hit the street in August. ...euy2k.com
