"Have you been with them long? And still happy?"

I haven't opened an account with them. Most of my short term profits come from shorting, and when I got my account packet from MB, they included the list of "unable to borrow" stocks. 60% of my short term profits YTD have come from 4 short sells, and 3 of them were on the MB restricted list. The other one I hadn't encountered at the time, but I'll bet it's not available through them as well. I understand that MB has expanded the list considerably as well, as well as making you call before you initiate a short position. I would have already transferred the account if not for that.

As far as their reputation, I understand it is pristine.

I've been with MB Trading since May and as an execution system they are very good. I used Datek for 6 months before that and share your sentiments about being in the dark for executions. Probably their best feature though in stark contrast with Datek is the ability to communicate with them during the day with their support chat room. You always know exactly how things stand technically with their system, so when things due happen, internet glitches, their glitches, you know where you stand. They are very helpful.

Down side as Barbara has said is availability of shorts. Since they use Southwest Securities, they do have to work through a middle man in this regard. Last month Southwest changed their short policy to conform to certain rules, so they dropped their hard to short list and made it so that you can only short stocks on an authorized list. This has drastically reduced the short possibilities although they are working to expand the list and update it regularly to accommodate their customers - Barbara, you might give them a call and ask about the possibility of adding you favorites to the list. They are very helpful and friendly on the phone also. I saw someone say that Datek clears their own stocks, so that is why they allow so many to be available to short. I think you would be pleasantly surprised with the executions. Hope this helps
