Look at component prices, including Intel's.

Hard Disks are dropping 10% per month.

DRAM is given away free.

CD ROMs are almost free as are floppy drives.

Monitors come from S.E. Asia as do power supplies, cases, cables, etc. Haven't you
heard of the STRONG DOLLAR and WEAK Asian currency?

Figure it all out. You'll understand. >>

Indeed. Just got a DIY bare machine for testing purpose
with PII300/128M RAM/6.4GB HD/i740 board/24x CD/440LX
for US$900. Comparing to my old Compaq P75 bought in 95
(US$1800), this new sub-1000 has more Intel Inside
dollar wise.
