A quote from your links (refering to small companies exploiting the bandwith niche): "That could be a big drawback. 'They haven't yet built a service portfolio or support structure,' says Eric Paulak, Internet analyst for the Gartner Group (Stamford, Conn.). 'I don't see large corporations considering these players for their data services.'"

The article you referenced dealt with bandwidth, which is necessary though not sufficient for efficient VoIP service. What that last quote infers is that for small companies to suceed, they need to go beyond the technicals and provide service and support. This applies to Digitcom as well. On the positive side, Digitcom appears to be focusing to a large part on the service and support area, as evidenced by the nature of their contracts. For example, Digitcom signed a

"...letter of intent with the White Knight Group (WKG) of Abu Dhabi committing the parties to the establishment of a joint venture company to be headquarted in the United Arab Emirates. The joint venture company will work to extend the Digitcom Network in the Middle East using the company's Internet Protocol voice and data communications products along with traditional long distance services."

My interpretation of this is that Digitcom is providing hardware and software connectivity in exchange for the services and support infrastructure provided by the local telecomm operation. Companies providing only boxes would be under severe pressure from competitors, both small and large. And companies already established in the field would be seen by these countries as too predatory on their fledging telecomm deregulated business.

At least that is my take on it.
