>>>''.......chipmakers are accelerating their 0.18 micron production transition to gain the economies of scale needed to reduce manufacturing costs and increase profits. This drives the need for production-worthy 0.18 micron-capable lithography tools"<<<......

>>>>>>.......''Although this capacity is sufficient for our current requirements, we continue to add manufacturing bays to ensure our ongoing ability to meet demand from a broadening customer base -- and prepare for the eventual industry upturn. We are equally focused on developing partnership programs with these other chipmakers to help them leverage the power of this technology in their fabs,'' concluded
Der Torossian.

Shipments of the new Micrascan III+ lithography system are expected to commence in late 1998. SVG representatives will be available to discuss the tool during the SEMICON West 98 wafer processing exhibition at San Francisco's Moscone Center, July 13 - 15, 1998. Customers and press are invited to visit the SVG booth, 2226, at any time during the show..........<<<<<<<<<

Is it me or $16 million is really not that much, the news release sounded good, but was it really?

According to Akin, the 5010 laser was suppose to become a significant portion of the revenues starting in the third quarter. As of March 31st 1998 they had over $90 million in backlog, and they expected around $50 million in revenues for the second quarter. $16 million sure doesn't sound like much.

Since they only got $16 million worth of order for the new 5010, it would seem that their revenue for the third quarter should not be more than $35 to $40 million.

I can not imagine Cymer being profitable in the third or fourth quarter. Obviously most (if not all) of this should already be in the price.

GoodLuck to all
