Without seeming to be defensive or supportive of either of these knockoff parties (though I am a registered Republican), it is also true that if a Republican were caught engaging in this activity, an Inquisition would be held.
I find it so amusing that the Clintonistas are given VERY wide latitude by the press.
Last night, I saw Matt Drudge on Letterman. My wife sniffed "He's a liar like all other reporters." True enough, I replied. However, I also pointed out that Letterman had asked him if he was objective. Drudge replied "No. The press has never been objective in this country. It is precisely that assumption that is getting them in trouble and now blowing up in their face."
Mentioning that, I said to my wife that my gripe with the press ISN'T that it is Liberal - I can deal with that. It is that the press is Liberal while CLAIMING to be objective.
Example: In the NYTimes 3-4 weeks ago, after California voted DOWN the bilingual education law, the Times used language that employed a double negative, implying that Hispanics had voted to KEEP bilingual education. In fact, Hispanics had voted right in line with the general population IN OPPOSITION to bilingual education...
I don't have the exact quote from the Times, but I remember reading it to 5 different people and asking them how Hispanics voted. All of them replied that Hispanics clearly wanted to keep bilingual education. It was a deliberate attempt by the press to spread misinformation that supports a more "liberal" point of view.
