Timing DELL: JMHO: I believe that the current price runup is due to three main factors: 1) we are heading into earnings, which the market believes will be very good; 2) it is partially due to the market's expectations of a stock split, even though (as Chuzzlewit has most ably pointed out) a split does nothing for the underlying value of the shares; and 3) Momentum investors playing the factors in 1 and 2. So if we get a split announcement on Friday, I think the stock will likely move up somewhat in light of impending split and earnings on August 18th (Earnings announcement will be after close on 18th, per Michelle Hoody in Shareholder Relations). If we do not have a split announcement, the stock may drop back somewhat on Monday, due to some disappointment, profit-taking, and the momentum investors moving their cash to a more immediate opportunity. However, the stock should regroup and return by 18 August, which is the next most logical time to announce a split. Remember that this is just my prognosis and I am much better at predicting Texas weather: hot and sunny. DELLish, 3.
