TR 3 will be the No. 1 game in the sales charts by Xmas 98.

Kai, I couldn't agree more, plus, as far as I know , there are no other potential big releases (such as Quake 3) due out then.

Hey Joe,

I think TR3 will do very well, but I'm not nearly so confident about it being #1 come X-mas time. Just on the Playstation alone, TR3 has a lot of competition. Here's a list of some of the most anticipated titles that'll be released in the October-December timeframe:

Metal Gear Solid (probably the most anticipated Playstation game for 1998)
Tomorrow Never Dies
Colony Wars: Vengence
Parasite Eve
Xenogears
Brave Fencer Mushashinden
Bushido Blade 2
Crash Bandicoot: Warped
Syphon Filter
Twisted Metal 3
Rogue Trip

Pretty much any of those (with a few exceptions) has a shot at being the number 1 game come X-mas time (and I'm sure I've missed at least a couple others). Plus, that's only the Playstation. If you look at past months, the number 1 game most of the time has been an N64 game because of the lack of titles for that platform.

Anyway, my point is just that yes, TR3 will do well -- but keep in mind that there are a TON of great games coming out (which is why I'm so psyched, from a gamer's point of view).

Harry

PS Just as another data point, videogames.com is doing an on-line poll about what Playstation game people are most looking forward to. Granted, there are only 5 choices, but TR3 and Metal Gear Solid are tied with 31% of the vote each.
PPS The other good news is that entertainment software sales are up 73% so far this year (quoted from an article about ERTS), so there should be plenty of room for all the big dogs this X-mas.

I just read the E3 reviews in some German PC gaming magazines and must say that EIDSY has by far the best product pipeline of all major companies. Here's a list of EIDSYs planned product launches with the genre and the expected release date:
Anachronox (by Ion Storm) Action-RPG 1.Q.99
Daikatana (also by Ion Storm) 3D shooter 3.Q.98
Gangsters (indeed a new concept a Stratgey-Simulation-Mix where the
player is the Godfather of a mafia family) 3.Q.98
Omikro Action-Adventure (3. person 3D) 4.Q.98
Revenant RPG 4.Q.98
Tartan Army (3D Action-Strategy where the player has control of some
"Scottish Highlanders", nice screenshots) 1.Q.99
Thief - The Dark Project (by Looking Glass) 3D-RPG 3.Q.98
Warzone 2010 Strategy 3.Q.98
and of course: TR 3 which is also due in 4.Q.98!
Many publishers at E3 concentrate at the Action-Adventure genre this
year rather than at real time strategy as they did last year. So, there are quite a few TR-clones to come. The only major competitor to Lara I can see, is the new 3D-Action-Adventure form LucasArts called
Indiana Jones and the infernal machine which is due late 98 or early 99. It uses the Jedi Knight 3D engine from LucasArts, but the screenshots don't look such smooth than TR 2 or TR 3 so far.
