August Stockletter August 6, 1998

Date: Thu, 6 Aug 1998 13:42:35 EDT
From: DoJoWiz@aol.com

On July 28th, Advanced Machine Vision (AMVC) released quarterly results that were also very strong. Revenue was a bit over $9 million and earnings came in at $0.08. Although the company still expects yearly revenues to be about $30 million dollars, they are very optimistic about next year. Since I missed the conference call due to being on a plane, I spoke with Alan Steele, CFO, upon my return. In recapping the conference call, he mentioned that there were no offers to buy the company. However, in talking further, he expressed the opinion that they expected their agreement with FMC "to increase significantly." In prior talks he only said that he "hoped" it would increase. Given that both he and the CEO have made significant recent purchases of shares, they are acting like there is a basis for this expectation. Additionally, they have new technology out for beta testing and are further encouraged that their European office is now at break-even. They have been competing successfully against Key Technology (KTEC) and have been able to increase margins. This shows that people are willing to spend more for better technology. I also got a chance to listen to a tape of the conference call. In the conference, the company mentioned that several microcap funds were looking at them and that they also expected some stock letter besides the Red Chip Review to begin coverage. They were not referring to the DoJo Letter and I've set my lawyer to correcting that oversight. Of course, the stock has drifted lower and I will continue to buy in the belief that sometime in the next 12-18 months, the market or an acquirer will recognize the value of this company.
