I can't believe nVIDIA isn't shipping the TNT yet! They are still promising to show off a "production build" of their TNT in "a little more than 30 days" - somebody correct me if I'm wrong but don't the graphics card suppliers (Orchid, Diamond, Creative Et al.) make their decisions about what chips to use right about this time of year? Shouldn't they be worried about the fact that as of right now the TNT is still vaporware? This announcement smells like a bunch of B.S. to me. The overriding impression I get is that nVIDIA is in real trouble right about now.....

Chip,

I actually know Lew Paceley from my days as a designer and marketing wantabe back at Intel on the P6 (Pentium Pro). Lew was the head of P6 marketing and quite adapt at putting a positive spin on on bad press (take the "P6 is slower than a Pentium for 16 bit code" as an example). He jumped ship from Intel to Cyrix and it seems he has now landed at NVIDIA.

He is quite a slick marketing guy and very good at PR. I think he is now doing the same thing for the RIVA TNT as he did for P6. Maybe 3dfx should hire himto fix their marketing. 8^)

Note his careful choice of language when he says "we have A name brand, honest-to-goodness game that already runs faster on TNT than V2 SLI". If they had more than one game running faster, I doubt they would be holding back that info.

I agree completely with your thoughts on which game it is and the timing of their announcement.

- Mark
