But the bullet has a big die and a heavy cost. The real double edged sword is that the Mendocino might even be faster on Winstone 98. Intel will have to keep the MHz lower and tout the still slightly faster FPU of the Pentium II... Jim

The server market comprise of less than 3% of all the computers sold. By the time the Mendocino is delivered AMD would have shipped over 3M K6-2. These 3M+ users will be asking for 3DNow softwares. Furthermore, at that time graphic card makers such as Nvidia, TDFX, Matrox, S3,etc. will be releasing their 3DNow drivers. These drivers will improve the K6-2 by 10-20%. The DirectX 6.0 improves the K6-2 additionally by 5-10%. K6-2 would still be a better proposition than Mendocino. Even with the Mendocino the CPU is still the bottle neck in 3D geometry transformation. Intel just doesn't have a 3D CPU. Maxwell
