Just heard that ASND is purchasing Praxon some sort of private internet company! Does anyone know any details about this acquisition?

Ascend Shares Fall Amid Speculation It's Not a Takeover Target

Alameda, California, July 14 (Bloomberg) -- Ascend
Communications Inc. fell as much 5.7 percent amid speculation the
No. 5 computer-networking company won't be bought by a larger
company and may instead be on the hunt for its own acquisitions.

Ascend, which will report second-quarter results after the
close of U.S. markets, fell 2 11/16 to 50 3/4 in midafternoon
trading of 6.04 million. Earlier, the shares touched 50 3/8.

Analysts said the company may be looking to expand the line
of products it sells to phone companies and Internet providers by
buying a small phone-equipment maker such as Advanced Fibre
Communications Inc., whose shares have soared in recent weeks on
takeover speculation. Such a purchase would make Ascend less
attractive to telecommunications giants like Lucent Technologies
Inc. or Ericsson AB, which are entering the data-networking
market by buying smaller companies.

''If Ascend is serious about buying someone else, it's
unlikely they're for sale,'' said James Wade, an analyst with BT
Alex Brown who rates Ascend ''market perform.''

Ericsson last month said it was in takeover talks with a
number of networking companies, including Ascend. Lucent has
spent more than $2 billion in the past year to acquire data-
networking companies.

An spokeswoman for Alameda, California-based Ascend declined
to comment on any acquisition speculation, citing company policy.

Advanced Fibre rose 7/8 to 25. The shares have risen more
than 35 percent since July 6.
