Only rumor (but what the hey): Merck detail man heard from his own company grapevine that a split was in the works, then told my detail man brother in the boondocks. But this is old news ... heard it prior to April meeting and nothing happened. Wouldn't they need to have new authorization for a 3 for 1? On the other hand, perhaps stock's zooming performance of late indicates insider knowledge of split. While a split is like getting 4 quarters for a dollar, it makes MRK more accessible to small investors like myself, etc. Arguably stimulates demand side for new stock purchase, entering new position etc., definitely affects short term price appreciation.
