COMPUTER RESELLER NEWS 07/06/98 P. 3, 10

"With the next major release of NetWare 5 just around the corner, VARs
are hopeful the more focused Novell Inc. will deliver a strong product
to keep its installed base from converting to Microsoft Corp.'s Windows
NT.

After several quarters in the red, Novell, based here, seems poised for
a comeback. Restructuring measures ushered in by Chief Executive Eric
Schmidt -- such as trimming staff and cutting out noncore development
projects -- have brought two quarters of slim profitability. Novell is
planning to sell its stake in Corel Corp. and The Santa Cruz Operation
Inc., which contributed to $56 million in losses, according to a 10-Q
statement Novell filed recently with the U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission.

But financial results are just part of the picture. Real recovery
hinges on NetWare 5 product sales to new customers and to Novell's
estimated installed base of 79 million users.

Slated for late-summer release, NetWare 5 is currently in its third,
and presumably, final beta...

As long as Microsoft's year-to-ship Active Directory is still in beta,
Novell has an opportunity to extend its leadership in directory
services, industry observers said.

While Microsoft, Redmond, Wash., said it expects to ship its product in
mid-1999, Novell promised to release NDS native on Windows NT by year's
end. Non-NetWare related sell-ins are good business and position Novell
as a leader in that niche, resellers said."
