From intel's earning release:

Intel's transition to the 0.18 micron manufacturing process is ahead of schedule and is being pulled in at least a quarter to the first half of 1999. Intel continues on track with its 32-bit architecture product roadmap and plans to offer a 32-bit microprocessor in 1999 and a 64-bit microprocessor in 2000, both manufactured on the 0.18 micron process.
