Interesting point you make about taking our own survey. Over at The Motley Fool they did a survey a week or two ago about browsers. They asked the very simple question "Which browser do you use?". As memory serves me, the result was something like 63% Navigator, 35% IE, 2% Opera. There were a significant number of respondents (some thousands as opposed to hundreds) so the sample was very indicative of preference.

That particular survey reinforced what I believed to be true. Among experienced "browsers" and web users Navigator is the browser of choice 2:1. Netscape has been losing the "browser war" for the last year as a direct result of Microsofts tying of IE to OEM and ISP contracts. There is absolutely no doubt of that. All the newbie computer buyers and web users who sign up with an ISP have been getting IE loaded onto their machines with no other choice. Most of those new eyeballs don't know another browser exists.

Netscapes challenge is to somehow win those lost eyeballs back from the Darkside. Hopefully the new marketing program they announce will be successful in that attempt. Whatever the good old DOJ can do to loosen the grip of the Microsofties from the balls of the OEMs and ISPs will also help. Given a level playing field the product can prove itself. I think that's all anyone ever asked, but Bill's never been known for letting any of his products stand alone in a one on one fight.

Oh well, JB and the boys are working hard I'm convinced of that.
