Tom: Another theory (since you asked). Tonite on CNBC around 6:45 they were interviewing a target (ie limited number of stocks) mutual fund expert and as an aside they indicated that Magellan had cut down on the number of stocks it holds. When i was looking into possible causes of the drop, i noticed that Value line indicates that Magellan was the largest mutual fund holder of HBOC. IMO: Just a remote possibility.

BTW: Its a trading stock for me. I sold half yesterday am @37 (i expected a lot more in the response to the earnings) and I got stopped out around 31 (3% below the 50 day emva) on the rest today, but will keep watching it and probably repurchase after it settles down (and based on technicals). IMO: good company.
