Hitachi to Begin 256 Megabit DRAM Production

Actually pioneered by Korean electronics behemoth Samsung, Hitachi today said it had begun production on a new memory chip packing some 256 megabits into a single chip. The company expects to begin sales of the dense memory chips next month for around $255 per unit. Using the new memory components, memory board makers could produce DIMMs packing 512 megabytes. The chips are no larger than standard sixty-four megabit DRAM components. Samsung was the first to develop the technology and the fabrication abilities, but had said mass production would not start fully until early 1999. Hitachi however has beaten Samsung to the mainstream market, saying tens of thousands of the components would be sold per month, and monthly production would increase to 500,000 units by late 1999. So relief is coming for us Photoshop enthusiasts!

david, i think you are really in tune to what investors in gen'l are thinking. since i don't think like most people, albeit, this is probably a good thing ;-), i just don't see it.

applesauce is definitely letting the world know that he is willing to go all the way with opm (other people's money ;-)

sure, some is his own , but make no mistake, the applesauce clan could live for eternity on his accumulated interest even if mu goes bankrupt.

this is really an interesting battle. kind of like a championship game. you lose and your out. it will be nothing if not very interesting to see this play out. each company's very survival is dependent on what they do...
