Some lawyers are fine moral people, but the system they work in is very bad. This in turn tends to attract scum and repel decent people from entering, or in your case staying, in the field. I'm reminded of the aphorism about politicians (I think it applies to lawyers also)...
Does power corrupt, or do the corrupt seek power? Probably some of both. Unfortunately, lawyers own the Democratic party, and represent a majority of members of congress, so reform is probably in the distant future. Interestingly, in France ex bureaucrats are the dominant group in the legislature , so they get a country with few lawyers but lots of civil servants. We get lots of lawyers but fewer (though still too many) government employees.
