Yes, I agree they are not bound be GAAP. If they do not look at the write downs, half of the equation. They could not look at the saving from the cost cuttings that were accounted for this period. I may be very wrong but I thought why they had to write them down is to match rev./exp. If you take out the write downs for the estimates you have to add back to cost savings for the estimates. If I am way off here I am sorry but this is how I had understood it.

The analysts can spin all they want to, but IMHO Intel's report looks to me like they had to really scratch to make the number 66 cents.
Anyone in accounting know the games that accountants can play.

This sector has downward momentum at the same time large markets
are experiencing downward momentum...I wouldn't be surprised to see Japan and Pacific rim to hurt them a lot in the second half of 1998.

Time will tell....I guess that's what make's it interesting I think the market's liquidity will start to decline for the big caps in a matter of weeks/months.
