Carter, NCR was a good business until AT&T wrecked it with phone company style long horizon management when only the nimble survive in the PC arena.
I see DEC and CPQ having a good blend as they do not compete but complement each other. The mainframes still have some legs left and a declining profitable business is fine and CPQ will try to expand upwards into the mainframe arena with its equipment using the DEC installed base from a position of strength instead of trying to switch people from DEC to CPQ systems in an adversarial role with SUN and others also biting their heels. They will do well IMO.

Carter - Re: "HFS buying CUC. "

This little soap opera makes Intel's problems look rather small!
