ASCEND: PSINet bundles Internet service with Ascend hardware

JUL 14, 1998, M2 Communications - Herndon, VA -- PSINet (NASDAQ:
PSIX), the first commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP), announces
a joint reseller program with Ascend Communications, a leader in WAN
networking solutions, to bundle PSINet Internet service with Ascend's
award-winning Pipeline products. The integrated services provide remote
access to small-office home-office (SOHO) users, telecommuters, mobile
workers, and remote offices. The service is also attractive for
medium-sized businesses looking for comprehensive Internet services.
These bundled packages are currently available through national
distributors such as Ingram Micro, Tech Data Corp., and Merisel. This
joint reseller program is designed to simplify the selection, ordering
and distributing processes associated with integrating Internet
solutions into small and medium-sized businesses. This alliance also
allows PSINet to expand its reseller base, targeting distinct markets
with industry-proven products.

PSINet's alliance with Ascend provides smaller businesses with
complete and cost-effective Internet access solutions for capabilities
such as e-mail, file transfer and Web access. With this agreement,
PSINet continues to build a foundation for embracing indirect sales
models, including heightening its current channel program and making
value-added reselling more appealing for VARs and their customers. This
program is currently limited to North American customers.

"All parties benefit with this alliance: smaller businesses benefit
with integrated Internet solutions at reasonable cost; resellers
benefit by being able to offer complete, turn-key solutions; and PSINet
and Ascend benefit by being able to target additional markets through
these channels," said Rick Frizalone, PSINet's vice president of
Business Development and Strategic Alliances.

PSINet services bundled with Ascend's award-winning remote access
solutions comprise an attractive package for resellers and end-users
alike. Resellers are able to offer name brand, top-rated products and
services through preferred channels with a single order. Resellers also
collect commissions directly from PSINet based on the type of program
and the length of contract they secure. Commissions range from $250 to
$2000.

Reseller customers may further benefit from package discounts ranging
from $295 to $995 on setup and monthly access fees. End-users benefit
by purchasing an affordable, reliable Internet package, comprised of
well-known brands, and they are billed with a single invoice.

"We're pleased to offer a comprehensive Internet solution to small
and medium-sized businesses through this agreement with PSINet," said
Roger Boyce, vice president/general manager for Enterprise Access at
Ascend. "Now, organizations can put the highest quality WAN solutions
and reliable, cost-effective Internet services to work in their
businesses and purchase them through a familiar model."

Package Types:

PSINet LAN ISDN Service (On Demand 128K ISDN bandwidth)+ Ascend
Pipeline 50 Routers or Ascend Pipeline 130

LAN-on-Demand provides "on-demand" Internet solutions for small
companies and branch offices that need full Internet access for their
LANs but are not yet ready for a full-time dedicated connection.
LAN-on-Demand dial-up services are available nationwide: LAN-ISDN
offers ISDN connections up to 128k. The Pipeline 50 connects to a
central site over an ISDN BRI line. Multiprotocol routing and bridging
allows remote users to simultaneously access resources.

The Pipeline 50 is available in either an S/T or U interface, and its
features include SNMP management, Telnet remote management, SYSLOG,
unlimited user capacity and, as with all pipeline products, the
optional Secure Access firewall. The Pipeline 50 is used by remote
offices that require dial-up network access. The Ascend Pipeline 130 is
a family of dedicated and dial-up remote access routers designed for
corporate sites with expanding Internet connectivity needs or remote
offices connecting to the corporate LAN.

PSINet Interframe Service (56K, 256K and T1 Bandwidths) + Ascend
Pipeline 50, Ascend Pipeline 130 and 220 Routers

InterFrame is a superior solution for companies that need a full-time
connection to the Internet, combining a dedicated leased line and Frame
Relay technology to manage bandwidth and traffic. InterFrame is
available nationwide at the full range of connection speeds to handle
all corporate requirements. The integrated functionality and optional
security features of the Pipeline 130 router provides an easy migration
path from ISDN to Frame Relay or dedicated leased-line services as well
as backup for mission-critical applications.

The Pipeline 220 remote access router offers open WAN-to-LAN access
and comprehensive security options in a single unit. It is ideal for
organizations that need to maintain a tightly protected LAN for
internal data transactions while permitting the outside world free
access to Web servers, FTP sites and other "public" resources.
