That's not a bad idea, maybe a variation of yanking a player out at certain time point. For instance after 5 min, two from each side leaves, after 10 min, another two from each team get yanked out until one team scores. Send your idea to Sepp Blatter the new FIFA honcho, I think FIFA has a web page. Druss, I have been playing since age of 5 and I haven't thought about this.

A suggestion to avoid shoot outs.

I hated the penalty kick shoot outs. The alternative I came up with was to pull five players from each team. This would force the game to open up. I think it would allow a quick end to the games while still providing soccer instead of awarding the victory to the luckiest team.

Well... I agree with you that Penalties is a lousy way to lose a match, let alone the WC.

However.... as much as I hate them, (I have given enough thought about this), I do not believe there is a better alternative....

Do not forget that prior to reaching the Penalties, they have been at it for 120 minutes plus.... so it is a way of saying, "You had better score, otherwise, this (the penalties), will be your fate"

ANd again, having said the above, it is not really luck, there is great skill in shooting a penalty (particularly under pressure), and/or in the goalie stopping them.....

For some reason, any other solution would be kind of .... well to quote one famous (Santa Klaus, from around here)... "mickey mouse"... only my opinion.
