Oh, I don't know about that. I once thought that AOL would be dead after AT&T offered unlimited access for $19.95/mo (which they no longer offer). Even as the cost of other ISP's decreased with competition, AOL's stonghold seemed to get tighter. Even with problems accessing AOL and AOL brownouts could not hurt them.

I'm convinced that once a subscriber signs up they would rather pay more $$ than 'bother' to switch to another provider. Amazon and Yahoo do not have this loyalty (yet).

And a recesson would not hurt the internet as it would be cheaper to stay at home on line than to go to the movies.

In that scenario- a crash of the economy - people will be even more intent on searching out bargains. The internet could be a useful tool for doing that. That adds to the argument that price erosion will occur because of the inet. And that many more people would buy from the 50% off discounters rather than the high overhead outfits like Amazonianuts.com

I have bought several things on the inet for personal and business use. I've prided myself on getting the lowest price possible and don't find much to compel me to buy the same item at a higher price because the site is pretty - "Aw gee, but think of all the graphic artists and web authors who need jobs." I guess they'll have to find stock options somewhere else.
