Dow Jones Newswires -- July 15, 1998 McKesson Corp., HBO & Co. Held Business Combination Talks Dow Jones Newswires SAN FRANCISCO -- McKesson Corp. (MCK) said Wednesday it had been engaged in discussions regarding a potential business combination with HBO & Co. (HBOC), but said the discussions have terminated. Officials at McKesson and HBO weren't immediately available for comment. As reported Tuesday, shares of HBO fell on speculation the health-care information systems company may soon make an acquisition that may be dilutive to earnings or a drag on the company's earnings growth rate. Shares of HBO closed at 32 1/16 Tuesday, down 4 1/16. McKesson, a health-care supply management company, earlier this year agreed to buy drug and cosmetics distributor AmeriSource Health Corp., but the Federal Trade Commission is looking to block the $1.79 billion transaction.
