The problem in this case is incompatibility of systems...this is a real problem. Invention is great, and necessary, but if things don't work together, or are a major hassle to install, what's the point. As far as I'm concerned, what we have is cheap, functional and much easier to use and install than at any time in history. If down the road, Microsoft gets too big for its britches as IBM did in the old days before they got slapped with anti trust supervision for 40 years (look out, it was lifted last year, I believe) then we can address the issue then. Perhaps we can even nationalize them......that should make it more efficient (NOT)
