Advanced Fibre's Low Price May Make It
Prime Target

By Nick Wingfield

The Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition

SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones)--Shares of Advanced Fibre
Communications Inc. (AFCI) went on a rollercoaster ride Tuesday as
rumors resurfaced that the telecommunications-gear maker is a prime
acquisition target.

Following a 20.6% gain Monday, the Petaluma, Calif., company's stock
gained 1 5/16, or 5.4%, to close at 25 7/16 on Nasdaq volume of 8.8
million shares, compared with a daily average of 2.1 million.

Wall Street analysts were quick to attribute the stock activity to renewed
speculation that one of several large networking companies may try to buy
the company. They mentioned Ascend Communications Inc. (ASND),
Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO), Tellabs Inc. (TLAB) and ADC
Telecommunications Inc. (ADCT) potential suitors.

I've owned Cisco and Coms. Played them for a while. Watched the news,markets,stories,business... Cisco ONLY shows up with products when the market demands them. ATM is another example of CSCO avoiding the speculation and coming home with their No.1 sales team to sell when the market is ripe. Chambers rewards his sales people not on $'s but Customer Satisfaction. Lucent made its mark the same way in the analog world. Dependable products make happy customers. Ask a car dealer how he makes money. Sales and SERVICE! So simple but so rare.
