Company Press Release
Diamond Lane Speedlink System Uses Analog Devices' DMT ADSL Chipset
PETALUMA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 15, 1998--Diamond Lane(TM) Communications, a leader in central office-based and remote Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) equipment, today announces the availability of a high density DMT line card for its Speedlink(TM) xDSL/ATM Multiservice Access System that uses the Analog Devices, Inc. ADSL AD20msp910 chipset.

Diamond Lane's DMT ADSL line cards are ANSI T1.413-compliant and can be upgraded to ITU-T G.lite. By meeting these important industry standards, Diamond Lane is adding the latest ADSL technology options wanted by service providers and end-users to its multiservice access system. Using Analog Devices' enabling technology, Diamond Lane's complete end-to-end DMT ADSL solutions will be commercially available in September 1998.

Offering full hardware/software functionality, the Analog Devices ADSL chipset is a total solution which implements industry standard DMT modulation that delivers rate adaptive ADSL at downstream line rates greater than 8 Mbps. The AD20msp910 chipset, co-developed with software technology partner Aware Inc. [Nasdaq:AWRE - news], is a rate-adaptive solution designed to meet North American and international standards for ADSL. The AD20msp910 chipset meets or exceeds the ANSI requirements for throughput over standard loops. This early to market, commercial grade DMT ADSL product provides customers with a total solution that reduces the risk of obsolescence. The chipset includes the DMT co-processor, mixed signal stage, line driver, host processor framer and software (both data pump and a full protocol stack for control and management purposes).

''By working together to provide a DMT ADSL end-to-end solution, Diamond Lane and Analog Devices are meeting the demands of service providers today,'' says Lee Doyle, Vice President of International Data Corporation. ''Because Diamond Lane has demonstrated its dedication to covering new developments in the DSL market, their customers can choose the appropriate technology to meet their needs as the DSL market matures.''

''We recognize that many of our customers require DMT modulation for ADSL. After evaluating all of the DMT chipsets available in the marketplace, we determined that Analog Devices is the current ADSL market leader from the standpoint of cost, performance, commercial viability and support,'' says George Hawley, Chief Technical Officer and Co-Founder. ''As an industry leader, Diamond Lane is excited to bring ADSL to the commercial marketplace as part of a complete, carrier-class, ATM multiservice access system. Offering Analog Devices' DMT chipset adds another dimension to our multi-faceted system. Our customers are delighted that Diamond Lane adds creative features to DSL technology beyond the standard transceiver functions and ADI has shown a willingness to work with us on these added value features. We are also pleased that ADI supports industry initiatives for interoperability of DMT transceivers.''

''We are delighted to establish a relationship with Diamond Lane, a pioneering company in the digital network access market,'' says Russ Johnsen, Vice President and General Manager of Analog Devices' Communications Division. ''ADSL is a critical enabler in delivering high-speed Internet and Intranet access services. With Diamond Lane's market potential and the enabling technology of Analog Devices' chipset, we can now bring DMT ADSL to the market.''

''As an interoperability partner, Diamond Lane consistently strives to meet our needs and the needs of our customers,'' says George Webb, director of technology business development for Escalate Networks. ''Because they offer several DSL options, and meet the appropriate standards, we are able to provide our customers with multiple end-to-end solutions incorporating the latest technology.''

Technology Background

Diamond Lane Communications is the first supplier to commercially offer an ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) based, multi-service, digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) in the commercial marketplace. The company markets the Speedlink ADSL-ATM system, which enables customers to move data 200 times faster than with conventional modems. The Speedlink system currently supports CAP (Carrierless Amplitude and Phase Modulation), DMT (Discrete Multiple Tone) and 2B1Q line codes. Next generation products will support other delivery platforms and line codes.

Components of the Speedlink system include the access multiplexer, a DiamondView element management system, a DiamondCraft diagnostic and troubleshooting craft interface application and CPE.

Diamond Lane Communications Corporation, based in Petaluma, CA, is one of the first companies in the world to commercially offer DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) data access. Privately held, the company is a worldwide technology leader in DSL solutions, enabling a variety of high-speed data applications via its Speedlink system, a DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) based on ATM standards.
