Wonder if the land was purchased at the peak just before the bubble burst?

Land would also loose value if it was thought to provide some strategic advantage for Oil or Gas exploration. If so, why wasn't it exploited.

So were back to swampland in the South bought at a market peak for some advantage that no longer exists.
