Scientific-Atlanta to Supply Advanced Satellite Telecommunications System for Rural Australia

biz.yahoo.com

>>The satellite footprint used by Telstra covers all of Australia where customers will connect to the new system using 1.2 - 2.4 meter dish antennas, depending on location. Providing rural users with services like call waiting and call diversion will be a new capability for satellite technology. The system also has the intelligence to detect immediately if you are calling an Internet service provider and automatically assign a connection that can handle modem data.

Telstra's new rural satellite service will be based on Scientific- Atlanta's Skylinx(TM) digital telecommunications network system. It can supply this level of quality and service cost-effectively because it uses DAMA (Demand Assigned Multiple Access) technology. This enables the use of satellite channels on an as-needed basis, instead of having them permanently assigned. Since there are no dedicatedstation-to-station links the number of channels needed to service the entire network is lowered. A Skylinx network avoids having to ''double-hop'' through a satellite, reduces space segment costs, and improves signal quality. The reduction in satellite bandwidth, which can be as much as 80 percent, coupled with lower equipment requirements, adds up to dramatically lower operating costs.

Telstra Corporation Limited is Australia's leading telecommunications company. It is one of Australia's largest businesses and oneof its biggest employers. Telstra offers a full range of phone, fax, mobile, and data services to Australia's business and consumer customers.<<

E! :

This action must be killing you.

...Can't get any worse...I had a fairly heavy position in Cendant so I'm still shellshocked, kinda where you were a couple of months back. I'm also taking my own advice and taking the mountain bike to and from the downtown office--round trip is ~35 miles, not that much but in the heat and humidity we're 'enjoying' at the moment, it sure helps work off the frustration.

Further frustrated by DPMI...tried on three occasions to get back in at ~32 and missed each time despite the fact that intraday lows dipped below that # so there must be some standing buy orders ahead of me in the queue and, of course, it shot up today.

It's just my turn for a butt-kicking, I guess

I hope you clean up on your SFA position-- I'll enjoy it vicariously through you.<vbg>

Cheers,

Wolf
