Without the charges it posted earnings from operations of $32 million, or two cents a share.

Didn't Compaq and EgoHead Pfiffer start this whole mess buy building too many PCs that nobody wanted and then tanked the market to unload their inventory? HP and DELL followed suit lowering their earnings and they all squeezed on the chip and drive makers for lower prices.... Makes me wonder what it would be like if Compaq didn't try to gorge itself on Digital? I guess we'd still have the overcapacity problem in memory....
