That solves only half of the problems. Dell is massively benefiting from outsourcing and declining component prices. Would like to hear some news from PC makers on that front as well. Only winner in all this seems to be the contract manufacturers, i.e. Solectron, Jabil, etc. who will benefit from a surge in outsourcing.
The wonders of this management technique are obviously not confined to the PC world. Caterpillar is a good example of how outsourcing improves inventory management, production costs and shareholder relations through higher margins.
