I guess my perception about "momentum" stocks is that they are stocks primarily driven by momentum investors. They go up because they are going up. Therefore, unless some event fulfills the gap created between the underlying value of the stock and its increased price, a stampede, or at least a large exit, is inevitable.

Of course, a momentum investor's perspective is that the stock is going up so I will jump on and ride. I know a couple of momentum investors that are really chartists.

I take it that you define a momentum stock strictly by its price curve behavior.
