I'm not sure what you mean by "chat sessions" but there are 2 programs that a lot of people have,

icq.com (it's called ICQ and I thought everybody already had it)

but the one i think you are talking about is at:
acuity.com (it's called IRC and I think it's what you are talking about)

If the second one isn't right ask around for IRC and someone will be able to help you.
