Just replace the word "semiconductor or chip industry" with "oil drilling" in this snipit of today's action from CBS Marketwatch...

Sound familiar?

"There are no true underlying fundamentals that are responsible for today's semiconductor rally," said Arnie Owen, managing director of equities at Cruttenden Roth. "This is a reflexive type of move since a lot of people want to bottom-fish in the group.

"The chip industry has been so commoditized and so overrun with a supply glut that I don't know, at this juncture, if the problem is over," he said.

Outside of the computer-related arena, few market segments could muster meaningful moves.

The energy sector was one, responding to the third consecutive rise in crude oil prices.
