George,
This is from Roy Sardina in April 1998

>>>I have said it before, there are not enough OEM deals to be had, and the channel development needs to be solution based. Even if these switch vendors get to the "Holy Grail" of $500 per port the high volume players need ot get their environments ready for Fabrics, which is not a trivial matter.

I wish Brocade alot of success they, I have a large stake in the company and I need for it to do well. Their execution to date is narrowly focused on high end switches and that's a tough business.<<<

Roy was giving us a pretty good education here.An IT manager who is familiar with FC also told me that getting the environments ready for fabrics is really no easy task and not there yet,though it is at the beginning of picking up steam. Except for alot of press releases, whitepapers,OEM's with not much bite yet(Groupe Bull certainly has had no $'s yet),and I would speculate that Brocade's run rate may be less then stellar(no IPO,new CEO) I do wonder what inning we really are in. Again Roy telling us that high end switches a tough business. Looks like he is very right for the moment.

Ed

George;

What is so hard about 8 ports? Does it take a year or two to rebuild or just simply eliminate some? If Brocade can do it why not Ancor? Should this be an issue for selection?
