John Y.Wang, (way off topic, but not really)
<..fascinating subject of trapping a photon..
.. my great special capability of time traveling...
..UFO ... identified such an object? The should
be called IFO ... some one coming to our very
humble and obscure planet ... Could it be possible
that we are living in somebody else's garbage can?
...too many of Arthur C. Clarke's novels ... have
spent a few insomnia nights contemplating about...
..have to spend too many 3AM mornings sorting
through SI posts....>

Yeah, everything is clear with you. Your local
mental hospital would be glad to talk to you
(just a very friendly advice).

Thread, after this confession I guess no one
will bother to reply to John Y. Wang "Time
Traveler" posts, ever. Enough. It will only
deteriorate his health further. We need to
feel sorry for him.

Time Traveller:

<<On the very fascinating subject of trapping a photon, let's not just limit it to a quantum well. The photons going around a black hole (assuming its kind do exist) would be considered trapped.>>

Astronomers have found evidence of black holes through observation of binary stars using Hubble telescope. The phenomenon of trapping photon through black holes is a "macroscopic phenomenon". Black holes itself are not quantum wells. Quantum wells are reserved for microscopic phenomenon where quantization in energy levels are observed.

You don't seem to understand the implication of my statement concerning flying saucers. Just imagine this. If I witness the presence of a flying saucer in front of my eyes where I can see that such an object accelerate and decelerate almost instantaneous, this tells me that such technology is possible and achievable. Then the physics we know of is not complete or understood. Without evidence I have no way of testing the limits of the laws which we postulated. Let me give you another example. Just imagine you travel back in time 50 years ago and demonstrated everyone a laptop computer which you brought from the present day. People would be awed and fascinated. Even if you show them for less than 5 minutes there would be individuals would be trying to figure out how to make such thing. It may be difficult but they will get there. There is no stronger motivation to achieve success only if you know success is assured.

<<Have you ever compared ourselves with the fungi living in your garbage can? Could it be possible that we are living in somebody else's garbage can? >>

It is interesting to see your view of the universe as a garbage can. I see it as a system that is affected by internal and external forces.

<<The universe is a very tricky thing which I am sure you have spent a few insomnia nights contemplating about it. But why? Don't you want to concentrate your mental energy in making more money? Is AMD really that much of a good buy right now? If you wisely choose the right investment, you don't have to spend too many 3AM mornings sorting through SI posts, just a very friendly advice.>>

The universe is a fascinating place to contemplate. Money is just a tool that human create to bring structure in society. To many people money boils down to one of the essential element to sustain life next to air, food, sex, and corruption. If you allow yourself to imagine a little you will find there are many fascinating things out there more than just money. To me making money is just a silly game.

If you want to take my advice buy AMD. AMD will be the only serious player that challenge Intel. Their roadmap looks very good. The K6-2 introduced by AMD is a pretty damn good product and will be difficult for Intel to block. Celeron was supposed to block K6 but I heard that AMD is already stop making K6. PII is already looking bad vs. K6-2. Celeron is just worst. I think it is an embarrassment to Intel. What is the point of Celeron on slot 1? I think those Intellabees who defend Intel and think Celeron is a brilliant idea is really stretching their arguments. What I see is that the introduction of Celeron is accelerating the demand of low price PC. I really think Intel is desperate.

What about people who buy K6-2? Well all I can say is that their K6-2 system will get faster and faster with time. When MS releases the DirectX 6.0, consumers will enjoy 5%-10% instantaneously in all applications. Then when the graphic card makers release their new drivers with 3DNow! consumers will enjoy another 15% boost in performance. Finally when the games hit the street with 3DNow the K6-2 will improve anywhere from 20%-100% improvement. On the other hand if you buy a Celeron or PII, what you see is what you get.
