Steve, bw has the right description. I used DATEK for shorts and I can get instant fill using the web. Waterhouse used to check first when I called but if I use the website, I'm not sure. Either way, for liquid stock, it is never a problem finding something to loan.

LT - for whatever you are worth, you now worth the Canadian dollar! <gg> Looney Luk is what they call you now, <LOL). For your MSFT play, it will work as long as this market does not have uninteruppted money flowing in for the next six months. Don't you know MSFT is the #1 stock to buy for anybody who invests? Why are you so infatuated with the big name companies? Want to short, try the mid size, small players with really lousy fundamentals but temporarily inflacted stock price. MU would be more like it. May be you are a changed man, looney!

Drillers - A pause in oil price quickly translated to an opportunity to sell. This was the scenario #2 I talked about yesterday. Today could be just an aberation because Aug crude future expires today. But Sept crude future is not doing much better. Therefore, I'm considering selling some VRC here if things are not resume the up course late afternoon. A stop would work fine here.
