ProCyte Launches Innovative Tricomin(R) for Thinning Hair

New Hair Care Products Target Increasing Balding Population Market

REDMOND, Wash., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- ProCyte Corporation (Nasdaq: PRCY - news) today announced the commercial launch of its Tricomin(R) hair care product line for maintenance of thinning hair in men and women.

Based on its clinically-tested copper peptide technology (Triamino Copper Nutritional Complex(TM)), Tricomin(R) shampoos, conditioners, and follicle therapy solution are positioned to participate in the rapidly growing $1.5 billion hair care market.

Studies reveal that by age 65 nearly two-thirds of all men, and 44 percent of all women, experience some degree of balding or have fine or thin hair, translating to approximately 40 million men and 20 million women in the United States alone. These numbers are expected to increase as 76 million Baby Boomers enter their fifties in the next decade with thinning hair concerns.

ProCyte will initially offer four scientifically-crafted Tricomin(R) products: Revitalizing Shampoo, Conditioning Shampoo, Restructuring Conditioner, and Follicle Therapy Solution. Each is uniquely formulated to enhance hair quality, volume, and texture, while maintaining a healthy hair growth environment by effectively conditioning the scalp. The products will deliver copper, amino acids, and botanicals for nourishing and stimulating the hair and scalp for improved health, strength, and appearance.

Biological copper, highly concentrated in hair and nails, is vital for proper tissue function, wound repair, and collagen formation. Copper deficiencies have been linked to various disorders affecting growth and structure of the hair.

The food, drug, and mass merchandise hair care market is estimated to be $4.5 billion dollars, while the salon market is approximately $7 billion -- growing at a 27% annual rate since 1993. This dramatic growth has been seen in the speciality areas of haircoloring and hair ''regrowth'' products, fueled by men's product launches including Revlon's American Crew, Nioxin, Matrix Icon For Men, and Merck's recent launch of Propecia.

Many factors, including hormones, affect hair texture, thinning, and levels of sebum on the scalp. Men, especially after age 25, experience growing anxiety regarding their hair and scalp health, specifically changes in texture, thinning, and hair loss. ''The Tricomin(R) line has been developed with leading Dermatologists and is well positioned to address these concerns,'' said Jack Clifford, President & CEO. The company plans several line extensions by early next year.

The product will be initially available through physicians' offices, primarily dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons including hair
restoration specialists. We will also launch the products through several internet sites which sell directly to our targeted market.
In addition, consumer advertising in magazines such as Men's Fitness, Shape, Town and Country will begin in the fall.

This report may contain forward-looking statements. The Company's results may vary significantly from quarter to quarter and will depend among other factors on product launches and market acceptance, manufacturing contracts, and distribution agreements.

ProCyte Corporation is a healthcare company which develops, manufactures and markets products for tissue repair, skin health and hair care. The Company's products incorporate its patented copper peptide technology and are marketed both directly and through distribution partners.
