Harry,

I'm around and always lurking. That is, as long as I am an investor in Compaq. I figure I probably won't seel for at least 1-2 years. We'll see.

Mark

That only tells me that they have a lot of room to grow. If cost controls are put in place that will affect earnings positively for 2-3 quarters. We have only seen one so far if you count a few weeks. I see numbers of $1.1B for DEC services. For <5% that is great. CPQ also has a $50B revenue goal by 2002 (or 2000, but the year is irrelevant for my point), holy crap - can you see what I am saying now and how it fits!

All the news release I have seen are saying sub-$1000 pc's are here, PC pricing is sooo competitive. What they hell do they say about server and services sales growing - not much my friend. Even if I am wrong a little about this (since I don't see and read EVERY news item), there is a perception that CPQ is still the old CPQ based on the content of the news releases. Watch all that change. I say good, keep it that way for about another month so I can scrounge up some $$$ to buy more shares cheap.

Watch DELL's press releases over the next coming months. I bet you will see the word workstation and server appear more and more. Why, because that is where DELL is shifting some of their model. makes sense right and seems obvious - but you are missing something here. A lot of this is after-the-fact.

I would imagine a good following and brand loyalty by that <5%.
With the CPQ brand in front of DEC services, H/W, and S/W, I can see that 5% growing, can't you?

I'm telling you that DEC and CPQ customers have no idea of the synergies. A CPQ customer have no idea what the DEC solutions can provide - and vice versa. This makes for good sales conversations. Since both sales forces have been good to very good (at leat in the NE region of the US) in my eyes this is akin to adding more locomotive to a train. It will bust through anything it couldn't beforehand.

I'm not trying to convince you - mind you. Merely I am telling you what I see and know. I have always had a particular insight to the channel industry and the retail industry.
