I am not a physician. Recently I have had two different friends get hips replaced in California though. In both cases the surgeons were familiar with Robodoc and doing what they could to dissuade the people from going to it. They stressed their long term experience with their present method and the "who knows how well this will work in the long term" view of Robodoc.

I think it would be extremely naive to expect most surgeons to embrace this unless their patients demand it. They've all got years of training and vested interest in the existing methods. Hopefully enough will embrace it however to force the others into it eventually. The insurance companies and HMOs may also force a trend in that direction in several years if the outcomes are demonstrably better.

One opinion ....

Bill

Carolyn,

I am not surgeon however I can tell you that this technology was developed with surgeons from UC Davis medical school. Also the Robodoc surgery is better than what a surgeon can do so it improves the surgical skills of a surgeon. I know someone who is a medical professional who has seen the Robodoc demonstrated.
