I was just trying to point out that several companies had made an attempt (however lame) at trying to compete with Intel. It is a common misconception you know, that Intel never faced competition. But maybe we are saying the same thing in a different way.

It's like saying Hank Aaron wouldn't be the home run king if he had more competition.

Pardon my buttin' in, but I am old enough to remember those days, too. IBM did go after Compaq with a vengence by "standardizing" on the micro-channel bus architecture. That was their fatal mistake, IMHO, of course.
