Bearded One,

I agree in most part but there is a couple small flaws in your Support for 2.

First off, Netware 3.12 with the Y2K patch is Y2K compliant. The same holds true for NetWare 4.11 and 4.10.

NetWare 3.2 is Y2K compliant and NOVL staff told me that NetWare 3.x sales have been better than it has been is 3 years.

Just thought I would mention those points.

As for suppression on NetWare 4.x sales until NW5 shows up, I would agree with you on that. That is why I think NOVL's Q4 earnings report will be a big (good surprise) and the stock will move up fast after the release of Q4 earnings. The suppression of these sales will snap after the NW5 release.

Netware 3.X is Y2K compliant

in the version announced last quarter which brought in substantial revenue last quarter for the Novell 3.X NOS family.

So your argument that 3.X customers must upgrade to Netware 5.0 to be Y2K compliant doesn't fly.

However perhaps you can find some other compelling upgrade reason than Y2K. For example E-commerce?

Any compelling reason as long as it is valid will do. But thanks for reminding us that not even Novell investors are aware its products are Y2K compliant!!!

Your opinions seem reasonable and I would agree with you except for the fact that Novell started a program about a month or two ago (I forget what the are calling it and all of the details) that provides free upgrade to Netware 5 for customers who buy 4.X now. For this and other reasons, I expect continued good sales of 4.X and good numbers for Q3. Also, Netware 3.2 and 4.1x both have patches available which provide Y2K compliance.
